I see tonight's full moon and try to stare it down so I can wrap my arms around it and tap into its constructive energy. It’s a Snow Moon, only showing occasionally, spiritually illuminating my saturated backyard, throwing intricate shapes and shadows I rarely see, just in late February.
It freezes me, its bright glare in my face, its contemplative attitude and unblinking stare. It makes me feel small and alone, here on my sparse square compared to its universal commanding glow. Like a light blanket of snow, it quiets things, smooths rough edges and muffles the chaos, encourages reflection and prepares us for new growth. It calms things while energizing others, not the melancholy golden moon of Fall, no, something new, more optimistic, full of purity and promise. Is it the same full moon Israeli and Hamas soldiers see, same full moon shining on their families; same full moon Russian and Ukrainian soldiers see, same one bathing their friends and families? Does its universal glow fully shine that far away, does its bright energy convey any degree of optimism and relief, harken to a new beginning? Is anyone there also trying to stare it down so they can wrap their arms around it, around the Snow Moon, and feel that we genuinely care?
I sure hope so…..
Simple but true!
