The rain came hard and slanted, whipped by an invisible offshore spirit, pounding on the roof and against the windows. Rivulets of water pour over eaves and off palm leaves, torrential yet peaceful, drowning out the day's white noise.
A different quiet settles in, voices softly rising from the street, a rooster crows and darts along the beach. The wet respite subsides, giving way to a freshly washed midday, ready for drier things to begin again.
